Database sync weirdness

I’ll do my best to explain what I’m seeing and ask for help. I have a Mac Studio M2, MacBook Pro M1, iPad Pro 12.9 M2, iPhone 15. All are updated with current versions of OS and Devonthink.
In looking at one of my databases, both the Mac Studio and MacBook Pro are in sync and report all the folders I’m expecting. However, some of the folders (data) is missing on the iPhone and different folders are missing on the iPad. This is for the same database.
Something like this: I have folder1, folder2, folder3. All three, with associated files, appear on the Mac Studio and MacBook Pro. Only folder2 appears on the iPhone while folder1 and folder3 appear on the iPad Pro. I’m using Dropbox for syncing now, but was using iCloud until a few months ago (with lot’s of issues) and Bonjour. Dropbox seems more stable and I’m able to sync when away from my primary computer, so that’s been a step in the right direction.
I’m thinking that a course of action would be to delete the database on the iPhone and iPad and then sync again, but the terms “delete” and “clean” are still confusing to me so wanted to ask here to make sure.
Thanks for any help.

The distinction is simple:

  • You delete a database, removing it from the device. This has no effect on sync data or other devices.

  • You clean a sync location, removing the sync data from a sync location. This has no effect on databases on any device.

And has been documented and spoken again and again, if you have a sync issue the first things to look at are:

  • What is reported in DEVONthink’s Window > Log?
  • Is there a triangle on the sync icon in DEVONthink To Go’s bottom toolbar? If so, tap it. What is reported?

Thanks Bluefrog,
Maybe simple to you, but I thought it’d be obvious from my question, not so simple for me. I’m sorry to disappoint. Follow ups:

  1. If I delete the database from a device, then I re-establish sync to “reload” it, right?
  2. Cleaning - while I’ve been through the manual several times, I guess I’ll go back there to understand what a “sync location” is. I guess my simplicity shows through once more. Again, sorry to disappoint.
  3. In Devonthink’s log window, it reports one file left to be uploaded.
  4. On the iPhone, there is no triangle on the sync icon.
  5. On the iPad, it reports “Found documents with empty file path”.

Nothing disappointing.

reimport but yes.

See In & Out > Sync including the Basics and How To in the built-in Help and manual

Nothing of major concern here. Hold the Option key and choose Help > Report bug to start a support ticket.
