Delete Unused or Empty Tags

Hi,

Five minutes ago, I received a warning in my logs about having too many tags.

Here’s a solution that works perfectly and allows you to delete empty tags. For instance, if you forget to uncheck the “Convert Categories and hashtags to tags” option in the RSS Settings, this will help you.

  1. Select a global smart group in the Smart Groups section of the Navigate sidebar.

  2. At the bottom of the sidebar, press the plus (+) button and choose New Smart Group.

  3. Give the smart group a name like Empty Tags and leave the Search in dropdown as Databases.

  4. Add the criteria: Kind is Ordinary Tag and Item does not contain Data, and click OK it to close.

  5. Select the smart group, then select any or all the tag groups in the item list, and choose Data > Move to Trash.

  6. When you’ve got things cleaned up, choose DEVONthink > Empty Trash to fully remove them.

Courteously by DevonThink’s own blog.

Hope this helps…

You could also use a frequently triggered smart rule (e.g. before synchronizing) to automatically remove these tags. By using the Delete action it’s also unnecessary to empty the trash.
