DEVONsphere crazy power usage and potential memory leak - other apps don’t start

Hi all,

Starting few months back what was happening with my Mac was that I had to restart it after 2 days, max 3 (which is very frustrating). Before that this was not the case, I was running many stuff, 2-3 week maybe, and restarting just to “refresh” not because I had to.

Then suddenly what happened is after 2-3 days if I try to start some app, the icon will start to bounce in the dock (like normally before starting) and then it will disappear and there was no way to start any app. On second attempt there was some error displayed on the screen (something line “this app cannot be started). I think it was something like the image shown below (image taken from internet).

I tried resolving the problem with suggested ideas on internet (like killing the dock and stuff) but no luck.

Then I started to monitor memory / CPU usage when incident was occurring but couldn’t pinpoint the problem.

Then I checked Energy Tab i viola. The power usage is really off for DevonExpress. See my screenshot below:

Then I stopped using it, meaning I disable it not to start at login , and the problem with 2-3 day restart vanished. Again I can keep Mac running for days.

So sharing this in hope root cause will be found and solved.

My setup:

  • Sequoia 15.7.4
  • Devonsphere Express latest version

Cheers

Screenshots of Settings > General and of Settings > Categories would be useful, most likely it’s due to the settings or amount of data. Another possibility is not sufficient disk space on the startup volume for virtual memory.

Thanks @cgrunenberg

I don’t think it’s disk space:

Unfortunately the update schedule is not visible, you might try Hourly instead of Automatic.

Sorry, but yes, it was Automatic .. I switched it to Hourly.

Thanks
