Is this set?
That setting is set to use latest document and has been the whole time. I think when I switched over from the previous version of devonthink that might have changed that setting initially, but I have long since switched it to use latest document and deleted that initial batch of duplicates but they keep happening.
- Are you getting duplicate groups or files?
- If files, any specific kind?
- How big are the files?
- In the Info for the sync location, are you syncing the reading list & positions?
Yes I’m syncing the reading list and position and I’m getting both groups and files. When it duplicates groups sometimes the some of the files in the group will register as being a duplicate while others do not. I have tried getting all of the files into one copy and deleting the other copy but they come back. It’s largely word documents and pdf’s as well when it does happen.
Not sure if this is related or not, but I also see two of some of my other databases listed under remote databases.
Not sure if this is related or not, but I also see two of some of my other databases listed under remote databases.
Those are databases that aren’t open on this machine or haven’t been imported to it and should be completely unrelated.
Well that’s a relief, any idea why it shows two of them though?
Do you mean you see the same database listed more than once?
If by that you mean I see it listed twice then that is correct
If you see a database listed multiple times, it is not the same database. They are databases with the same name.
Ok, so I deleted one of the databases in each instance that this was the case, and then I cleaned the sync location. Is there anything else I need to do in order to avoid any more duplicate files?
I feel like I thought I was good there for a bit after doing this, but lo and behold, I was blessed with a whole new batch of annoying duplicates. It seems like it happens more often when I’m actively working within a database. For example, I’m certain I had given the database a serious once over in an effort to get rid o f the duplicates once and for all, I had the number relatively low and was prepared to come back at a later date and finish them off, no rush right?
Wrong. When I looked most recently the number of duplicate files had tripled and whats even more frustrating is the fact that according to the added date, they were added just last night, at like 530 or something like that, but for the life of me I can’t think of what I was doing at that time that would have led to mass duplicate creation, especially since it’s been such a focus of mine lately as I attempt to eradicate this issue once and for all.
Do you have any ideas what it is that I could be doing that would lead my database to behave in such a way? If I don’t get it figured out soon here I don’t know what I’m going to do, but as it is I feel as though I waste way too much time trying to minimize the dupes.
It’s really starting to take away from all the functionality the app offers in the first place. Besides, I’m starting to believe that I swear to god the things possessed. manner?
I’m running Catalina 10.15.4 on my Macbook Air and also on my 27" iMac (also running same operating system) and my Devonthink app is up to date (3.0.4). The indexed files/folders that are being duplicated have not been moved recently and are in a fairly static location, which is why I felt that indexing wouldn’t be an issue especially with finders tighter integration, but boy was I wrong!
I didn’t see your response to this: Is your Documents folder synchronized via iCloud Drive? And did you recently add or modify this file?
It is synchronized through icloud drive and which file do you mean? Of the multiple files that were duplicated, none of them were ones that I had recently interacted with in any way.
I’m not sure what file Criss was referring to. I just noticed you hadn’t responded to him.
Are the files being stored only in iCloud and downloading on demand?
Possibly…is that the option for smart management or whatever they called it?
Sorry, i didn’t see that I had never replied. It is synchronized and no I did not interact with that file in any way to my knowledge
Do you see the download icon for files in iCloud Drive in the Finder, like so…
Yes next to some files I see that icon
Are those the ones duplicating?
Hold please.
