Devonthink 4.2 won't open, not responding

Upon opening, Devonthink 4.2 halts at the title screen that shows “building scripts menu” and stops responding. I have to force quit. I’m running macOS 15.7.3, and DTTG 3.8.16. I’ve restarted my Mac several times. I think today was the first time I opened 4.2 after updating. I was asked for permissions or locations? for my document folder and download folder, etc. I can’t recall exactly. It was during that process that I may have gotten into trouble.

If I wait to force quit, after several minutes the log window displays, followed by the activity window that asks me to locate the Help Viewer.app. After a previous restart I was asked to locate Apeture.app which is not even installed.

The log window is frozen and the activity window shows that Devonthink is attempting to verify the Global Inbox and open my main database.

Could the 4.2 update be corrupted? My DTTG app is syncing without issue. No other instances of Devonthink are on my computer. Only using my laptop and iPhone. Devonthink has been rock solid forever. Until today. Help!

Welcome @secaris

Could the 4.2 update be corrupted?

This would be extraordinarily unlikely.

My DTTG app is syncing without issue.

DEVONthink To Go is a separate application, on a separate platform, and is unrelated to DEVONthink launching on your Mac.

I can’t say it will immediately address your issue but you should give DEVONthink Full Disk Access in System Settings > Privacy & Security.

More concering is: what have you tried to add to your database?? You should not be seeing anything about Help Viewer.app. Did you add your home directory or drop your internal boot drive into a database?

Thank you Bluefrog, you were right. In Finder, I navigated to the Inbox in my sidebar and found an alias to the Macintosh HD sitting in my Global Inbox. No idea how that happened but it sure brought everything to a screeching halt while Devonthink tried to process all those files. I trashed the HD alias and proceeded to sort out everything else. None of my databases were affected except for the Global Inbox. I will be more careful clicking and dragging in the future! I’m back up and running no worse for the wear. Thank you!!
