It is possible to upgrade this operacional system?

If on your Mac you check Systems Setting → General —> Software Uodate and click button to Check for Updates, the computer will report what updates are available and possible.

Probably not, read this…

Is it an alternative way to run DEVONthink4? Or install ab alternative os?

It is a list of mac computers that can and cannot run Ventura.

Your machine must meet the minimum system requirements.

Time is cruel. Ten years’ service out of a Macbook and an iMac were apparently practical limits. MacOS Monterey was so comfortable.

My Macbook is on a zero interest for 24 months plan at Best Buy. I have a Mac Mini on a 12 months zero interest Apple plan.

I’ll either get ten years service out of them, too, or a luckless mortician will have to pry them out of my cold hands.

Or, a creative AGI implementation will decide it’s had enough of humanity and play War Games in real time.

Could happen, you never really know these days.

In the meantime, DEVONthink 4 is pretty cool.

Well, you could run Windows laptops that need replacing every two years instead

10 years is a lot. My stats (35+ years) has been a new Mac every 4.5 years.

About a year ago my MacBook battery wheezed the last full erg it could muster. Apple wanted $600 to replace it. In a cheesy, traitorous act showing how easily my loyalty can be bought, I replaced it myself. For $75.

It worked great. We still use it for taking board minutes. Pages under Monterey isn’t a problem.

I got 12 years out of a 2012 MacBook Pro :heart::slightly_smiling_face:

Still running my Mac Pro (2012) and a Macbook Pro (2017). Both are running macOS 15.6 with help from Open Core Legacy Patcher

But I have to buy new hardware next year…

Well, my partner uses a Power Mac G5 from around 2003. Only occasionally, though, when they need the one program that only runs on this machine.

I use a Mac Pro 6,1 (trash can) with macOS Sequoia using OCLP. Though this hardware is too old to support AVX2, which could lead to issues with some applications. DEVONthink so far has worked flawlessly. Unfortunately, this project will inevitably die as Tahoe is the last ever x86 macOS release.

With Adélie Linux or MorphOS, some folks are keeping PPC Macs somewhat useable in this day and age.

(inhales sharply)

You could give OpenCore a shot, which patches macos systems to allow you to update to newer versions that the machine officially supports

Saying that - it’s not something I’d do myself. 20 years ago, I spent endless amounts of time futzing with bootloaders on Window Mobile and patching system; these days, life is too short - the cost of downtime, repatching, reinstalling is higher than just getting a newer machine.

Hear, hear!

Granted, such futzing is part of my job (e.g., I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled DEVONthink To Go 4 a dozen or more times in a single day as I’m testing for reproducibility in issues, etc.). But in general, such “patchery” can certainly lead to unexpected behavior, which can obviously complicate support as well.

I also got 12 years out of my MacBook Pro. Still works, I’m sure it can go faster if I were to defragmented but the battery has been long gone, after 5 years it required to be plugged at all times
