DEVONthink 4 ghost launching and ghost activating

Using DEVONthink 4 (4.1.1), I experience ghost activating and ghost launching (if DT is not open) while working in other apps with DT usurping the active app focus. There is no predictable trigger, timing, or other app that I have identified which does it. I use some Keyboard Maestro macros to launch DT4 when I mount volumes, another to close DT/eject volumes, and one that closes all of the database windows (6 dbs) except “Dissertation” after the dbs open. DT works fine when it is the font app. It happens more frequently on my Sequoia machine than on Tahoe. Any tips on how to isolate the behavior?

Do you use any reminders? Which version of macOS do you use?

Sequoia on a MacBook Air Intel (most problematic) and Tahoe on Mini M1 and MacBookPro Intel. No Reminders (I don’t use the app) with a couple of one-time reminders in OmniFocus. Idrive app does routine backups. macOS updates are set to automatic.

Actually reminders in DEVONthink, see Annotations & Reminders inspector. Only reminders can launch and activate DEVONthink 4 whenever a reminder is due.

I didn’t even know about that feature and have never intentionally created a reminder. If I search all databases for Item > Contains > Reminder, there are no results.

Do you use any scheduled scripts, e.g. in smart rules or other apps like Hazel, that launch/activate DEVONthink?

  • No Hazel scripts
  • All 18 DT4 smart rules are on demand and infrequently used (monthly or less)
  • No Alfred workflows
  • In Keyboard Maestro, all DT4 macros are triggered either by clicking global macro palette, via typed string, or by external volume mount
  • Automatic backups to Time Machine, Backblaze, and/or IDrive
  • All DT4 syncing is via Bonjour with no other sync stores with DT4 always open on my Mini (server) and one other open MacBook and iPad (DTTG 4) is open

Is there a file ~/LaunchAgents/com.devon-technologies.think.plist in your user library?
