I am using DEVONthink Pro 4.1 on a Mac Studio 4 running Tahoe 26.0. Since installing Tahoe, when I try to convert an imported email from Apple Mail into a PDF file, DEVONthink completely freezes, requiring a force quit of the app. It does not occur with any other type of file so far, only Apple Mail emails. I’m only doing this with single emails, so I won’t think the file size is the issue. Any suggestions or fixes appreciated. Thanks.
Welcome @AllanG
It’s too late now but you should not immediately install the .0 release of an operating system. They are bound to be buggy and Tahoe is certainly no exception. It is better to wait for a .1 or .2 release.
Do a Spotlight search for Activity Monitor . When our application is stalled, go into Activity Monitor and select our application in the list of processes - it should show “(Not Responding)” and the name in red - and press Command-Option-S to run a sample on it. When the sample window opens, press the Save button and save it to your Desktop.
In DEVONthink, hold the Option key and select Help > Report Bug. Attach this text file to your Support Ticket so we can inspect it. Thanks!
Is the email encrypted or does it contain large attachments or remote images? I just converted two emails (one plain, one with attachments) without any issues.
Thanks, I have done that. It automatically attached a console report and some other files in addition to the Activity Monitor file, which I also attached. The additional files were not done at a time when the app was frozen because it was completely unresponsive to any keyboard input. The only thing i can do at that point is a force quit.
No encryption or attachments. There are images. I did just try a small email with text only and it did convert without freezing the app.
Yes, going against past practice, I installed Tahoe 26.0. Bad move! My Mac runs into daily problems, from file handling to screen freezes, to various individual app problems.
Attached images or online images?
Sorry for the delay in responding. After some investigation, they are online images. I have also found that converting an email that does not contain any images in DEVONthink works perfectly. I submitted a bug report to Devon Technologies, who responded that the issue was in the MacOS text engine. I checked font book and found no issues with that. At there suggestion, i also deleted DEVONthink’s preferences. That did not fix the issue either. So for the time being, I am using the export as pdf function in Apple mail to send the emails i want to save to the DEVONthink inbox.
Does disabling loading of remote images (see Settings > Files > Emails) fix this? Any chance that you could redirect an affected email to cgrunenberg - at - devon-technologies.com? Thanks in advance!
