Devonthink 4: "Versioning is not enabled" & "Transformed text via chat" is greyed out

I am using Devonthink 4. It’s amazing, I’m exploring the AI integration and loving this new version.

Q1: I believe that I have versioning on (set to 10 versions). But even so, when I open a .md file I created in DT, the version history part of the inspector still says “Versioning is not enabled.” What am I missing? I scoured the forums and I don’t see a similar question. This is not a question about files edited in an external program or non-native, non-DT files. This is a markdown file created right in DT 4.

Q2: “Transform text via chat” is greyed out. I have connected ChatGPT and it seems to work everywhere except here. I do have some issues with getting it to recognize the file I’m talking about, but that’s another topic. For now, if I’m in a .md file or any file, the transform text via chat is greyed out and I’m not sure how to get that turned on. Suggestions welcome.

Q3: (added after initial post) The markdown style sheet in v4 currently seems to be adopting the font I chose for the Markdown font, but just bolding it. (This is noted in the help guide.) I see that there is a place in settings to choose a new style sheet, but I was actually quite happy with the markdown style sheet in v3. I’m curious why the markdown rendering changed and whether someone has a simple, clean markdown style sheet to recommend. I would really like to use the github markdown styling but I can’t find one online that works. Maybe someone has recommendations?

I’m so grateful to the DT team, I love this new version!

Thanks for the kind words!

  1. Version is enabled per-database in File > Database Properties.
  2. Do you have text selected?
  3. Many Markdown editors have stylesheets installed, often in their ~/Library/Application Support/<app name> directory.

  2. For the ai text transformation, I do have text selected but the text transformation is still greyed out.
  3. I’ll find a good stylesheet, thanks!
