Walk into an empty bar and see how far you get asking if anyone wants a game of darts.
Yes, but walk into a darts barā¦
DEVONthink devsā time is finite. Iād rather they spent their time here, where I might benefit from it. Iāve often found answers in old threads.
Iām on Discord, but not for any kind of product support.
If you think a Discord server should exist, I think itās pretty easy to create one. Especially if you donāt expect DevonTechnologies to participate there.
But unless you have some pre-existing community in mind ā ālawyers in NYC who use DEVONthink,ā say ā Iām not sure what the appeal would be. The internet already has plenty of places to chat with random strangers.
Worth noting that Discord doesnāt store data indefinitely; it deletes old content (itās in the t&cs), so itās not so useful for stable products like DT where historic advice likely doesnāt change much and can still help people. As others have noted, its premise is synchronous communication rather than asynchronous communication like message boards. It doesnāt seem very conducive to a professional group like DT users who are often busy and will take days to respond to messages (as well as reviving old threads like this oneā¦).
Personally, I greatly resent apps that push me to Discord for support and updates. The search function is not great, and you rarely get focused threads on a specific issue. I do use Discord, but for hobbies, where it can work really well at bringing together people around a common interest to chat in near real-time about things.
The forum here is great, and I am against opening additional channels. Users are, of course, free to do so, but any insights shared elsewhere will be missed here. In my opinion, opening a Discord channel is a particularly bad idea. Everyone is free to create one, but I hope that DEVONtech continues to focus its valued and limited support resources on this forum.
