I’m brand new to DEVONthink. I suspect I gave a command to import files incorrectly. (Just a guess)
The current status is the daisy wheel appears every 2-3 minutes and stops DEVONthink from responding to commands. The log grows correspondingly with a list of skipped files.
How can control be reestablished and performance returned to normal?
you can cancel the process by using the activity window: Window->Activity window

What did you import?
I did read how to cancel importing emails. Unfortunately, when I went to Mac activity window I didn’t know what to cancel.

Also, there is no point in adding your /Applications directory to DEVONthink, if you did that separately.
Sadly, lesson learned. Didn’t intend to, clumsily mouse work. Anyway to recover?
Please spend some time in the built-in Help and manual, especially the Getting Started and In & Out chapters.
Importing copies documents, so you can delete the items in the database or delete the database itself, if you created a separate database to work with. Then empty the database’s Trash in DEVONthink.

Is there a way to have DEVONthink stop its importing process so I can sort out the databases without the constant interruptions?
Just force quit it and press Continue when opening databases after launch. And you can delete the problematic database before relaunching.
Before your advice above, I stumbled upon a fix. Evidently, if you try to index a folder located in iCloud, there will be problems.
I know that is well documented. And, I knew so before my issues surfaced. Again, I must have been sloppy.
Here’s the thing - why did the error present in this way? I only removed the iCloud folder because I noticed it while searching for the folder containing Applications (there was none).
Great news - once the folder was deleted from the database, problem solved. Your help was key.
