I am using DEVONthink 4.1.1 and since 4.1 when opening a database or when verification starts, DEVONthink completely locks up and beachballs and never comes out of it. I have to force quit and restart.
If I quit the verification as it starts in the status window everything is fine. But, it gets beyond 2/3rds it locks up.
Since 4.1 I’ve to regularly empty the trash and clear cache to keep things moving well.
Regularly emptying the Trash is recommended anyways.

Yes, which is why I have emptied the trash since DT allowed it. I rarely have anything in the trash and no more than one or two items. Which is why I am bring it up here. In the 20 years of using DEVONthink this it the first stretch of problems I’ve run into. I can let the verification run for hours, but it initially stops moving and there is zero activity as soon as it starts to beach ball (I watch it in activity monitor and it is just stopped dead).
How many items does this database contain? Any indexed items located on slow network volumes or in cloud folders?
There are around 100k objects and are all local on an M4 MBP Max with 48GB of RAM. It has been running fine and was very responsive until DEVONthink 4.1.
I’ve been really surprised in the 20+ years of using DEVONthink how responsive it is with the collection I have. DEVONthink 4 really improved speed and responsiveness with search. It is the validation issue that is one of my first big problems in 20+ years.
As noted in the blog post…
Do a Spotlight search for Activity Monitor and there select our application in the list of processes. Its name should be in red and show (Not responding) . Press ⌥⌘S to run a process sample on it. When the sample window opens, press the Save button and save it to your desktop. Then open a support ticket and attach the process sample so we can see what is going on.
Thanks.
That was done before posting here.
Ah, I was an Apple Crash Report, which I know take time to route through.
I’ll get it to crash and send it from Activity Monitor directly to DT.
