This forum, along with DEVONtechnology’s published blog, and of course the “DEVONthink Manual” are probably the best places to read “everything” (that’s available to read) about DEVONthink. Dilution of information serves few.

Thanks for the suggestion. Bear in mind, we are a very small team with established support channels, including this forum. While we do occasionally pop in on MPU and less frequently on Reddit, we can’t be everywhere all the time.

And, for completeness, our main social channel is Mastodon which runs on our own server: DEVONtechnologies (@devontechnologies@devontechnologies.com) - DEVONtechnologies

More evidence of the good sense here at DevonThink: not trying to be “everywhere all the time”

According to Oxford University Press, that can lead to Brain Rot, their Word of the Year for 2024, defined as:

“Supposed deterioration of a person’s mental or intellectual state, especially viewed as a result of over-consumption of material (now particularly online content), considered to be trivial or unchallenging. Also: something characterized as likely to lead to such deterioration.”

Can’t recall I’ve ever seen anything here that could lead to that affliction, however common it might be elsewhere (actually, seems to be an epidemic).

The term “brain rot” itself is an internet meme, a product of brain rot (and arguably language corruption). That’s why the term can be misleading. More precise descriptions of the phenomenon include:

  • Numbness
  • Indifference
  • Oblivion

The first generations of late modernity are largely numb to the uniqueness of their living style. They rarely appreciated the spectacular achievements underlying what has become modern norms: high-rise buildings, automobiles, the telephone, the TV, etc. Nor did they recognize the harm these normal things dealt to their environment and eventually to themselves.

The same mindset is present in the first generations of the social media epoch. Most of them treat consumption of fast-food entertainment as the norm. They are numb/indifferent/oblivious to the admirable intricacies or the damning implications of social media itself. When they became self-aware of that mindset in the aftermath of Covid lockdowns, they called it brain rot.
