When I insert a large image in markdown it does two things:
In WYSIWYG mode it creates a large empty block on top of the image after insert. This large empty block dissappeared after working with the document.
When writing below the image each hit on the space bar at the end of document makes the window display jump down and up again (very annoying).
What’s your line height multiple setting in *Editing > Settings > Format?
Images are part of the line height calculation by macOS’ text engine, therefore increasing it adds empty space above them.
Please see image… its a hugh block, like 5-6 lines, not only a little extra. It dissappears after navigating the document. It is a glitch for sure.
It‘s roughly the image height x 0.3, consistent to the line height multiple setting.
check the long way down to the image and the cursor on the right of the image
See my above responses. Images are part of macOS’ calculation of each line’s height. Setting the line height multiplier to 1.3 increases the line height (including the image) by 30%. I would recommend to set this to 1.0 and to use line spacing instead.

I experience the same behavior with images.
However, my line height multiplier is already at 1x.
Were you able to find a solution?

Yeah this confused me until I figured it out! This happens because the line height of the text is greater than 1.0. To fix it:
make sure the document’s Format Bar is shown (menu: Format > Show Format Bar)
select the image with the text selection tool: click after the image then hold shift-key down and press the back arrow until it is selected (the image itself doesn’t highlight when selected like this, but you can see the empty space above it highlight)
in the Format Bar, at the top of the doc…
