Does a search examine all open databases?

I am working out my database structure and I have been following advice I’ve seen in some posts and blogs about creating topic databases.

I may have gone too far!

I performed some searches this morning and it appears that a search only looks at the database that is currently selected in the “OPEN DATABASES” section on the left.

Are my observations correct? (If so, I’m going to consolidate some databases)

Depends on how you are searching. Searches from the toolbar only search the active database. Global searches from the Search window (command-shift-f) searches all open databases by default, or can be set to search a specific database from a button in the Search window Sidebar.
