Download images with the Markdown file

I use Shallow Sync for DTTG. I download the Markdown files only when I need them. After downloaded the Markdown file, the linked images are not displayed because they are not downloaded. To download the linked images is very tedious. Is there any way that the linked images could be downloaded together with the Markdown file?

Thank you for the suggestion, a future release will improve this.

My question is: If the Markdown document is later purged, manually or automatically, should the contents of the downloaded images also be purged?

The linked documents could be also used elsewhere.

Indeed. Good point.

That will be good, if the linked images is not used elsewhere.

It’s possible but not promised, especially as it adds to the overhead.

The ability to download the linked images with the Markdown file has been removed in DTTG 4? I used to be able to do in DTTG 3. Now, it cannot be done in DTTG 4.

Far as I can tell, nothing changed in this regard. Maybe. Others can comment.

What do you mean “download”? Download from where? Specifically what sequence of actions did you do in DEVONthink ToGo 3 that now does not work in DEVONthink ToGO 4?

Here, based on a test that I just did from a news web site, the linked images synced with Bonjour from my MacBook (where I created the Markdown file from Safari) correctly to my iPhone using DEVONthink ToGo 4.0.2 as both individual files and displayed in the Markdown file. I viewed all this in the “Recently Modified” Group to check and report back to you. [Normally, I don’t keep these images from media web sites unless needed for the content, so hence I did a separate test rather than looking at existing files.]

Thanks for looking into this.

Refer to my original post for the background/scenario. The files (both markdown and linked images) are Shallow Sync. They are not downloaded until you open/download them.

So, when you open the markdown file, only the markdown file is downloaded and displayed. The linked images are not displayed since they were not opened/downloaded. That was the case in Sep 2024.

Thereafter, they were some releases in DTTG3 that addressed this problem. If you open the markdown file with linked images, the linked images will also be downloaded, thus displayed.

Now, in DTTG4, it is no longer having this behaviour.

If your database are not Shadow Sync (“On Demand”), then you won’t have this problem as all your files (markdown and linked images) are already downloaded to DTTG.
