I enabled the preferences; and everything was going well (highlighting, commenting etc). Suddenly, my annotations turn to this:
As has been mentioned multiple times, that hidden preference does not resolve any PDFKit issues. It just tells DEVONthink to not mark PDFs as read-only.

Yes, you made that clear. I posted it just to let others know that not turning it on might be a better option.
I am now using PDF Expert, which doesn’t use the sick PDFkit, to annotate my files. But, I really hope that a solution can be contrived, somehow, because reading within DT was very important to many of us for various reasons.
For me, I really miss the annotation pane (Annotation Pane (Annotation with Links, Notes, Tags v3)) when I read outside of DT. I really made that script the main part of my workflow.
