Hi, I try different ways of syncing between my devices (iMac, MacBook, iPad, iPad mini, iPhone) : iCloud, CloudKit, Dropbox…
I’ve had issues, mainly the remote sync not working.
Including messages I don’t even understand, like « iCloud kit / clé de chiffrement non valide» ?
In fact I never got a proper syncing between these devices.
And I did things I should probably never have done, like using simultaneously several syncing modes.
After reading the post below, I decided that syncing locally via my wifi network would be the most simple and reliable.
I’ve never done that yet, how should I do, regarding the various way of syncing that are set on my devices ?
I mean, how to start from a clean slate, be sure that switching from other methods will not be a mess, and that I will not lose data ?
Other question : are there differences in terms of free storage space needed in each of these devices, according to the sync method used ?
Sync data is not your database(s), so keep that logically separated in your mind.
No, it wasn’t a good idea to set up multiple sync methods and try them all at once. However, it’s unlikely you did any damage.
You need to disable and delete all the sync locations on all devices but one, likely a Mac.
Go into DEVONthink’s Settings > Sync, Control-click a sync location you’ve used, and choose Clean Location. This will remove any sync data that may be stored there. You can optionally, press the minus (-) button to remove the location.
Repeat with other locations you tried to use.
If you followed correctly, you should be as close to square one as possible without reinstalling (which I do not recommend in this case).
