I may not be able to update to DT4 (it cost a little bit to much for things I won’t use), but how will it work with DevonThinkToGo ?
Will it continue to work?
Should I stay at the current version of DTTG ? or should we continue to upgrade it?

The combination DEVONthink To Go 4 and DEVONthink 3 shouldn’t cause any troubles as long as you don’t use any of the new features like audit-proof databases. Same when using DEVONthink 4 and DEVONthink To Go 3.
P.S: We do promotions every then and now, maybe this will make the update a little bit more compelling. And there’s more than just AI in version 4, DEVONtechnologies | New in DEVONthink 4
Yes it’s pricey compared to the previous versions. I think I’ll just keep the current DTPro 3 until it stops working. Sad after being a loyal user for 15 + years. I use it to just keep my stuff organised and synced to my phone. Don’t use cloud services only connection through wifi. But AI costs money, but I rather rely on my impeccable ability to organise with help on finding other related info in DTPro3.
So, you use a software for 15+ years, and you pay twice for it (DT2 and DT3). In these fifteen years, you get umpteen upgrades and fixes, as well as prompt and competent support in the forum for free.
And you feel “sad” that you will have to pay again for the new version? I’m wondering what other software you use where you’re charged only twice in 15 years.
$99 is a bit too much as I don’t use the Devonthink Server.
Going to DEVONthink 4 Standard would be enough for me.
But it’s not possible…

What is DTTG 4 ? Is this an upcoming App that is not released yet?

Yes, I understand that naming, but does that version of Devonthink To Go exist already? I have Version 3.8.9 and this seems to be the only one available on the App Store.
I’m specifically asking if/when there will be a Version 4 of the mobile app as I’ve not seen that announced, but you have been writing about combining that with version 3 of the desktop app.
Well, it does exist but it hasn’t been released as it’s not yet complete.

One thing that would be super nice in the DEVON ecosystem is scanning documents with the phone (i.e. DTTG). We are almost there, as the Files App can now scan and then store documents in the inbox of DTTG, but it has no OCR and is inferior to common scanning apps. But maybe this workflow can be streamlined. Not sure if the iOS document scanner is exposed to apps via api…?
It’s always possible to submit requests & suggestions here or via our ticket system. However, the roadmap for DEVONthink To Go 4 is pretty much fixed but it won’t be the last version
You could look at SimpleScan. You can set a default destination of DTTG’s documents folder. It optionally OCRs. Custom destinations is a paid feature, with one-time and subscription options.
OK, thanks. I know there are a few options for these apps. ScannerPro by Readdle is my currently used and it works OK. But I trust DEVONthink with all my private data, and many of the documents I scan are sensitive. These days one has to be very careful that a simple scanning app does not upload all scans to somewhere for dubios AI classification, etc. Anyway, this discussion is for a different thread.
The price per year is $99 for an upgrade. Seeing it cost not that much more for the original version and around the same for the upgrades from my original versions, that is a very step price to pay for software that is almost perfect as it is.

I just use the iPhone and scan the document to my Desktop using the Files app. Devonthink OCR’s it. Its free. I have a Hazel rule to put it into Devonthink
DT OCR is only available in the pro and server editions.
I have no problem justifying the cost in light of the value it provides. Yet I sadly cannot upgrade because my Mac is just too old to run the OS version it requires.
