Is there any way to upgrade from a DT3 Pro license to DT4 Server?
Also, is there any chance you would consider a slight discount on the purchase price (not renewal) if you restrict the number of users on the server to 1? I myself will be the only user of the server. The whole purpose for me is to gain access on my windows machine, and not to share with others in an enterprise setting.
I did which is why I asked in regards to a feature request.
My interpretation of the Server pricing and package is that it’s tailored to small business or extreme power users who share access to their database amongst many people. That is a market segment I understand, and the pricing makes sense for that audience.
However, my use case is different – I feel. I cannot justify the cost of the server license as the only benefit I gain is the ability to reference documents on my windows computer (as I only have a mac laptop). I hope you understand how the feature is helpful for me while also not encroaching on the market segment that I think the server was designed for.
With that said, I understand there’s no free lunch. I’m happy to pay for the privilege of having server access. My only ask is that there is maybe a mid-tier where there is server access but is limited in some capacity (e.g. limit to 1 user, or no users/authentication whatsoever). I would be happy to switch to that version as it’ll meet my needs nicely.
Sorry for coming back to the original question. How would I upgrade to DT3 Pro to DT4 Server?
Do I upgrade from DT3 → DT4 for $99, and then pay the difference for DT4 Sever?
It’s been great to run sort of a DEVONthink server to sync a database among several devices, with some scripted DEVONthink/DevonAgent running on an older Mac. DT 3 would run on that Mac. DT 4 is not going to do so. Is there a way to carry on having DT 3 do its “grunt work” on my old Mac, but sync it onto my newer one that would be capable of and running DT4?
Beyond audit-proof databases in DEVONthink 3, there is no issue syncing with DEVONthink 3. That being said, version 3 is not going to be developed and supported forever.
