DT4 'Early Extension' Questions

First, congratulations on the release of DT4!

I had purchased DT3 in November 2024 and see that I am able to upgrade to DT4 as part of my current license.

I am looking at the “Buying Update Time” section of the pricing page at:
https://www.devontechnologies.com/apps/devonthink/pricing.

My question is - if I pay to extend the updates for my license before the time is over, is the extended time in addition to when my current license ends?

Or do I lose the remaining time in my existing license and the extended license begins on the date of purchase?

Also, do the early extension prices apply at any time before the end of the current license? For instance, a day or two before the current license expires?

I do plan to extend and will likely do the 3-year extension, but did not want to accidentally invalidate the five months remaining on my current license.

Thank you and once again - congratulations!

Yes, it’s in addition to the current lifetime.

These prices remain the same as long as the license is still valid for updates.

Congrats on the new release.

An FYI to anyone extending an active DT3 license right now:

I extended an active (purchased within the last year) DT3 license with the multi-year discount, which offers excellent value. Instead of extending my license for one year from the original expiration date, it reset my ‘updates until’ date to one year from today.

I opened a support ticket to let the team know about this error.

Hmm, we tested this extensively and people have purchased multi-year extensions already successfully. We’ll have a look at your ticket!

Thank you. My license was close to expiration, so it’s not a huge deal in my case, but I just want to make sure that I understand the policy right for my next upgrade. Thanks again.

The policy is that when you buy additional time, it should be added on top of what you already have.

I have a valid DTP3 license and want to upgrade to DTP4. I am also interested in “Buying Update Time”.

Do I have to purchase first the update for 99.- and afterwards “Buying Update Time”/3years?

My account shows “Upgrade” but no option to purchase “Buying Update Time”/3years.

Yes, the upgrade has to be purchased first.

Thank you for the quick reply, Christian.

In my account there is a key/button “Activate”. What is it for?
I plan to switch to DTP4 over the upcoming weekend.

Just as you had to do with DEVONthink 3, you must activate a seat on the Mac.

Technically, that button simply tries to open DEVONthink on your Mac and enter the license code.

Allright, I have switched already now to DT4.
First start of DT4 and after opening a few databases, DT4 crashes (mac-Report is available, if of interest). After reopen the app all databases were opened without issues.

Pressing “Activate” opens the app, as mentioned by Eric, where my DT3-license code is still entered ; )

Thank you for DT4 and looking forward to work with the latest release as successful as in the previous > 13 years ; )

In DEVONthink, hold the Option key and choose Help > Report Bug to start a bug report. Thanks!

ok, sent just now.

Do you use a developer beta of Tahoe?

No, it is macOS15.5.
I have already submitted a support ticket and provided logs and diagnostics reports.
