I’m having trouble capturing the following site as a .md file or even as a Bookmark. I get a .webloc file in either case with an error message “The network connection was lost.”
I’m trying to preserve these posts for future research. Markdown would be my preference, but ok witih a webloc if not otherwise possible. But since the author has since passed away I can’t gurantee it’ll stay online.
The other part of the objective is to preserve the comments on the posts. These are as important as the original articles and should be included in the capture.
Specifically how are you doing the import? And the error message might be true: network connection lost" which could be caused by any number of reasons, maybe nothing to do with DEVONthink. Impossible to tell from here.
That being said …
I also keep such reference files “for future research” in DEVONthink. I don’t use Markdown as I consider that file format as “source code” for writing and editing my own document, and Webloc is Apple-specific link to the webpage, not a copy of the document disconnected from the web site.
Perhaps you may find saving a copy to PDF more useful. I just tested this web page in Safari, then switched to Reader View to get rid of all the clutter, then opened Safari’s print menu and picked “Save PDF to DEVONthink”. Worked to my expectation. Result is I have an archive copy, without clutter, and even if web page disappears, I have a clear copy of what it was.
I’m “importing” using the sharesheet Add to DEVONthink link from the Safari tab.
Yes pdf is a good idea. But I don’t think it includes the comments when you move to reader view.
I don’t need to “archive” a copy of the pages, just the text (and the source link) is important for my purposes. Yours may be different, I can understand that.
Very clear, but that is why I said don’t use Reader View before creating the PDF to enable getting the Comments which you said you needed.
I was just explaining what I do. It might be a way to overcome your issue which might be specific to your setup/network. Can’t tell from here. From here DEVONthink (3.9.10) seems to be working as expected.
