I was using a little bit DT4 beta and I decided to go ahead and buy the license. Then I realize about about the new license scheme.
Regarles if I like the model or I don’t like it…. I would like to know if the license is going to be good to go till the ned of the life of DT4 because in a year you are going to create a DT5… or just for a year since the license buying day.
If it’s the latter one I think it’s a little unfair to sell the licenses starting today, because you haven’t gone out of beta and I’m paying now for using a beta software.
I think, that you either start the licensing peridot for all of us the moment you release the stable, or you let us return our license.
Also… I would like to test the DT4 and check if I go for it, but since I had a DT3 regular and I upgrade just to DT4 I don’t have the license to test. Mind you… I’m not going to expend 100€ to test the pro. I tried the remove the license from DT4 and it doesn’t allow me.
First of all, you should be reading the information we’ve already provided…
Secondly, there is nothing unfair about selling licenses now as the purchase is optional. Many people wanted to be able to purchase DEVONthink 4 the moment is was available in public beta and we have accommodated them. We are very appreciative of their support.
Lastly, you should read this regarding using the beta…
I mean… DEVONthink is LIFE :). I want to support their work, so it’s around as long as I am!
And I’m not even techy
Seriously, I thought I read somewhere that your annual renewal doesn’t start until it’s out of beta, even if you purchase now? I might be hallucinating, I’ve been using ChatGPT a lot…
When you upgrade while DEVONthink 4 is still in public beta, your one year of updates will start at the release of the final version. You don’t lose part of your year as early adopter.
It’s best to look at the available information before you install any beta software to understand what you’re getting into. Even more so if you decide to pay for and activate a license. That would have avoided this situation.
Well, what’s done is done. My advice is the same as I offered here:
