DT4: Tags Add All shortcut overrides built-in MacOS text shortcut Ctl-A

Hi,

This one is hidden away on a panel I don’t often use, so it’s taken me some time to find it – sorry for the delay in reporting…

In the Inspectors > AI > Tags panel Add All ^A button the short cut ctl-aseems to be hardcoded, which means that it overrides the standard MacOS built in text shortcut for beginning of line (Ctl-a). This is a problem for those of us who use this shortcut all the time…

This sort of thing – accidentally overriding built in MacOS text shortcuts – happens because there are only so many shortcuts to go round and in some ways it’s understandable.

Normally I just hunt the errant shortcuts down and override them in System Settings. So, for example, I change Tools > Inspectors > Properties from Ctl-p to something else, because Ctl-p is a standard MacOS text shortcut for previous line and it really should be reserved for that purpose.

But in this case, Add All ^A seems to be hard-coded and it’s not accessible to System Settings to override.

Please could a future version either a) change the shortcut or b) make the command accessible from the standard menu system so it’s changeable in System Settings?

Many thanks!

Thanks for the feedback! We could limit the shortcuts so that they’re only valid while one of the views or fields of the Tags inspector has the focus.

Hi Cris – thanks for the quick response!

Many of my Keyboard Maestro shortcuts use Ctl-a and it was one of those failing which drew my attention to the clash.

So, yes, I think your proposal to limit the shortcut to relevant fields in the panel would be an elegant solution!

Thanks again,

David
