We have no announcements about DEVONthink To Go 4 so it would be in a maintenance release.
that wasn’t the question. question is when is bug getting fixed in DTGv3? bug’s there for months.
Sorry but we don’t comment on development timeframes. There has been a tremendous amount of work going on that required our resources to be focused and dedicated to a specific goal.
Hello…
Yes, same issue. I have a folder with some website resources (links). I have selected them all and created a TOC for quick access in another document. On the desktop version of devonThink the TOC works; I can see the websites listed. However, once the sync has happened to DTTG4, I can see the folder with all the websites with the TOC, so the sync and the contects works, but the TOC doesn’t work. Worse than that, I have a document on my desktop, DEVONthink, with over 20 links to various resources in my database, which all work; they have synced to the mobile version, but none of the internal links work.
If I long-tap on one of the links, I can see the link to the other resource, but it just doesn’t go to it.
I’m using indexing, iCloud for syncing, and both devices are up to date
I see that this has been talked about, but what was the resolution? The mobile version is no good if the links don’t work.

dj
I don’t understand what you’re saying here. If the document is “on (your) desktop”, how is it “synced to the mobile version”? Nothing from my Mac’s desktop ever syncs to my mobile devices – how do you manage to get that working?
And where are the folders located that you’re indexing? Item links work just fine in DT4 with imported documents. If all your documents are indexed, it stands to reason that DTTG can’t access them.
@chrillek I think that there may be some confusion…
When I referred to desktop I did in fact mean DEVONthink on my desktop not the desktop itself, correct, of course it is not possible to sync from the MAC ‘desktop’.
I am using indexing. The folders that I am indexing to with DT desktop version are on my mac, for example I have a folder called “work projects” which is in home/myname/documents/work projects. The database in DT mirrors that location, I see all the files in DT and I create work sheets that have several links in them to items in the database. These all work fine.
I use iCloud as the sync location and DTTG4 is synchronised with that location. I can see everything from my desktop version of DEVONthink in DTTG4, so the desktop version of Devonthink is syncing with DTTG4 and visa versa through iCloud. I can create new notes and groups on both the desktop and mobile version of Devonthink.
Any document that I have with links to resources works on my desktop version of DEVONthink, but the same links in the same sync’ed document doesn’t work on DTTG 4, when I tap a link in DTTG4 it goes nowhere, even though the resources have been synced to DTTG from my sync location.
So do I have the wrong end of the stick? I assumed, probably foolishly, that as long as the two devices have the same data that they would behave the same way, to some extent. If I have a document with links to resources that have the same sync location, I assumed that the links would work.
If my database was not indexed but rather imported, would that work better for me.
Kind regards
Dj
Supposing that was a question: yes, it would.
My DT4 documentation says that DTTG currently does “not support indexed items”. I have no idea if that is still correct with DTTG4, though. And I don’t know why DTTG would show you indexed items unless it has access to them. Somehow. I’m sure @BLUEFROG can explain it.
I never index and always import. No reason not to.
DEVONthink To Go fully supports indexed items from the Mac, meaning it has to access to both their metadata and contents. But the files are stored in DEVONthink To Go’s database and not externally like on the Mac (due to limitations of the OS).
I’ve just created a test database, but this time I used import. I created a document with links to resources. Everything synced ok but when I opened the document with the links in DTTG and tapped a link, it would not go to that resource.
Am I missing something? Is it the case that whilst you have access to all your resources on both sync’ed devices (whether indexed or imported), the mobile device (DTTG) will not allow links in a document to show those linked resources due to the OS limitation?
In DTTG 4, you can copy the source link of a resource, create a new note, paste the source link into your new note, but even then, when you tap the link, it doesn’t go to the resource. Once you do a sync to your sync location, the document with the link will work perfectly on the Desktop version of Devonthink, as it’s supposed to.
So, from my experimenting, it would appear that source links created in a document, linking to your resources, do not work on DTTG. Unless I’ve got it wrong. So I guess it is a limitation of iOS, shame. Which means that DTTG only does “some of the job”. You can make links, but you can’t use them until you get to your desktop…

Your conclusion is incorrect…
This will be addressed in the next maintenance release.
Thanks. Which part is incorrect, some or all? Am I doing something wrong with the app? Is there a fix, or am I missing something else?
“…This will be addressed in the next maintenance release…”, a reply to @baillargg, applied to my post as well?

Version 4.0.4 contains an issue where links to documents, e.g., item links, don’t work. Version 4.0.5, currently in development, fixes that issue.
Thank you very much for bringing some clarity to this.
Just before your message hit the board, I rolled back to DTTG v 3, which works perfectly. I’m back in business
.
I’ve already paid for a v4 licence last week for a 1-year subscription. Today I’ve had to pay out for a monthly v3 as I do need to be on site with a mobile and with a working DTTG.
I’m not even going to ask when we will see a working v4. It will be when it will be. I just have to pay the monthly fee on v3, I guess, unless my v4 subscription can be transferred back to v3?
Thanks
Dj
You’ll see version 4.0.5 In the very near future.
You conclusion that it’s unsupported behavior. Item links have long been supported in DEVONthink To Go. It’s merely a regression in the current release of version 4.
PS: bear in mind, version 3 is in maintenance and will be retired from development and support at some point.
Thanks…
Until that time I will continue to use v3 and await a “working” version of v4
Dj
Thats great… Thank very much
