This is about using DTP4beta’s AI summary feature. It may save others some trouble, although I suspect everyone else figured out how to do this without having to spend a fair number of HI (human intelligence) credits, as I did.
I had thought that by upgrading to a paid ChatGPT subscription (from $0/month to $20/month), I would be able to use DTP4’s nifty implementation of ChatGPT’s summarization features.
Instead, at least in my case, I also needed to buy some credits on platform.openai.com.
IIRC, for me it worked like this:
(1) Using DTP4beta, Edit / Summarize via Chat was initially greyed out when I selected a PDF in a database. So I upgraded to a paid ChatGPT plan, which seemed to have enabled Summarize via Chat.
(2) But I still was getting an error message after trying to summarize a PDF. I followed the link in the error message and saw the note saying “Note: This does not reflect the status of your ChatGPT account.”
(3) So, while my wife was out of the room, I quickly added a payment method and spent $10 of our children’s inheritance toward OpenAI usage credits. (I didn’t agree to automatic renewal, however. Or not yet, anyway.)
I don’t know why these OpenAI usage credits were not already part of my now-paid ChatGPT plan, but I figure artificial intelligence is at least as good as human intelligence in coming up with ways to get money from me. And from you, too, no doubt.
One way or the other, I’m now getting ChatGPT-produced summaries, bullet lists, key points, etc., without leaving the comfort of the DTP4 interface. I know I almost certainly could have gotten these same results from using ChatGPT’s standalone or web interface, but I really wanted to put the new DTP4 through its pages. So far, so good.
