DTTG does not find my Mac

I would like to sync some databases from my Mac with DT4 Server to my iPhone.

I enabled Bonjour in DT4s Sync options and it seems to be up and running there.

When I understand the manual correctly, I should then find the Mac on the DTTG sync location screen in the local location section, but this section stays empty.

I only see CloudMe, Dropbox, iCloud CK, iCloud Legacy and WebDAV, but nothing else.

I checked my local firewall on the Mac (Little Snitch), even turned it off for testing, but to no avail.

Both devices, Mac and iPhone are on the same WiFi.

What am I missing? Any tips how to figure out what’s wrong, when the magic does not work out of the box?

Thx for any hints, Harry.

Does your router support Bonjour? And kind of firewall or VPN active on your iOS device?

I am not sure, if the router (AVM FritzBox) blocks anything there since I only have one flat wifi network, no segments or anything more complex. Afaik it doesn’t actively support Bonjour though.

On the iPhone is nothing special configured (no device management or anything) and no VPN configuration - not even inactive.

Did you turn on „devices on WLAN are allowed to communicate" in the FB?

There’s nothing “active” to support Bonjour. It’s a zero-conf multicast protocol, like DHCP. As long as you do not block it in the FB (I doubt that’s even possible), it is active.

Bonjour would not travel through a VPN easily (it might be possible, but it’s supposedly a headache). It’s meant to be a local protocol, and you should not need a VPN in your local network.

Make sure both DEVONthink and DEVONthink To Go have Privacy & Security > Local Network enabled in the System Settings (macOS) or iOS/iPadOS Settings.

That was the missing piece! I did not check that DT on the Mac can access the local network. I probably clicked the wrong button after installing it.

Once I granted that access and restarted DT, everything works like a charm!

Thanks a lot for your quick help!

Harry.
