Not sure if this is a bug. I use a keyboard with my iPad. I wanted to copy text from a PDF viewed in DDTG into another app. I used CMD-Tab to switch back and forth between the PDF in DDTG to the other app. Every time I switched back to DDTG the position in the PDF often changed, sometime by several pages. Other times the zoom level on the PDF changed to tiny.
Not sure if it is due to the other app or the keyboard.
Other app was Scrivener for IOS
version of DTTG 3.8.12
IOS 18.6.2
This is about 4 pages further on. I have noticed it only happens if the left hand navigation column is showing. If I make PDF âfull screenâ it keeps position.
Yes. Same thing happens if I switch to Things. In the Things/Scrivener I add a todo or a new document which takes seconds before switching back and it jumps.
With more testing, it only does it with PDFs from Affinity Publisher when they are in âspreadsâ. Other PDFs donât jump. Must be something to do with these PDFs?
This has been happening for a long time. I either posted here or filed a ticket about this a few years ago, I think.
Here is my experience:
This happens for me independent of the left navigation pane being visible or not.
It only happens in âscrolling: continuousâ mode.
It only happens if the pdf is still the active document when switching out of DTTG; if I open another document in DTTG first, then switch to another app, come back, and re-open in DTTG the original file of interest, it will always be at the correct position.
I donât even have to go into another app. Just switching to the home screen for 1 second causes this loss of position reliably.
It seems to happen to all pdfs that are long enough that I notice the effect; sometimes the jump is 2 pages, sometimes 3, and it can be as large as 30 pages. I cannot detect a pattern (say something like ânext chapter bookmarkâ). The jump is always forward. It is not to locations that I visited earlier (it could by accident, but clearly not deliberately).
The fact that this happens only in âscrolling: continuousâ mode might be an indicator that this has to do with how DTTG determines where to jump to in a document. If its simply a page number, this appears to be no problem. The procedure for finer placement, on the other hand, fails.
Personally, I rate this as the worst bug in DTTG for my workflow. It happens very frequently that a Messages notification pops up while I work through a pdf, and the natural reaction is to quickly check. Or investigate something in Safari based on what I read in the pdf. Having to search on the return for the spot where I left off is very frustrating. Earlier today I experienced this nearly 30 page offset. Took me forever to home in again.
Finally: Only on the iPad, not the iPhone. Both on the latest DTTG versions; iPhone 3.8.12 (17492), on iOS 26. I donât have my iPad at hand right now, but its latest version is presumably the same. Itâs also on iOS26, but in any case this effect has been there for years for me. Likely not relevant: I was on both devices in the DTTG 3 beta program until it ended.
Really finally: I notice that no one other than the OP, @saltlane, has chimed in here. Either this is rare, or no one cares? Again, for me itâs the most consequential misbehaviour in all of DTTG.
