Hi, not sure if this is expected behaviour, but doesn’t feel right..! I have 7 databases, all synced with Mac via cloud kit (and bonjour). On DTTG when I inspect each open database (Info popover) and then total, I get approx 8.5Gb… different to the Mac (9.4gb) but not too surprising I guess. However, even with all databases set as only download on demand (and the same setting in sync settings), the iOS reported storage size is 4.5gb. I understand from the help that the package reported under iOS storage includes extensions and other bits, but I dont recall using anything extra. I thought I would see a much more dramatic drop in storage by going to on demand, as just metadata being stored. Is my expectation unrealistic. FYI Ive noticed this because I was running out of space on my iPhone, primarily due to a ballooning in system info as a result of iOS26 - Ive reinstalled iOS26 and that problem is now solved, but makes me think maybe the DTTG storage may be related to the reinstall action?? Thanks,
Is this the size shown in File > Database Properties?
What version of DEVONthink To Go?
Thanks - version 3.8.14 according to App Store..Hadn’t spotted database properties… I was looking at the Finder reported size which is somewhat different. Database properties matches almost perfectly.
| Database properties (DT4) mb | DTTG3 mb | Finder mb | |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI | 1200 | 1200 | 869.5 |
| 78.2 | 78.2 | 158.4 | |
| EVN | 4400 | 4400 | 4950 |
| Receipts | 411 | 388.5 | 458.9 |
| Research | 525.1 | 525 | 628.9 |
| Structured | 2200 | 2200 | 2330 |
| Temporary links | 0.063 | 0.063 | 0.057 |
But why such a discrepancy with finder sizes then?
Hi guys, any thoughts on why my DTTG database on demand only may be only half the size of the full database on the Mac/Cloudkit. Surely it should be much smaller with just metadata? I mainly store PDFs etc. Thanks.
The size shown in the Database Properties and Info popup are the total size of the contents of the database, not the consumed space.
Also, in version 4 of DEVONthink To Go, we worked a great deal to bring parity to database information and statistics.
similar problem for me: DTTG 4 shows more than 30GB in the overview of the used iPhone-memory despite the fact that I downloaded only a few documents in my synced databases. Downloading is set to ‘manually’. Is there a way to see, where the space is used? Moreover I’m looking for a way to remove all downloads from DTTG and download them manually the next time I need them. Is this possible?

No, there is no itemized view of the data in use.

Are you syncing via iCloud (Legacy or CloudKit)?

- What is the Settings > Synchronization > Retain slider set to?
Is there anyway of calculating what the metadata only size of a particular database is? Assuming fully purged etc. thanks
No. It may be possible to estimate it from DEVONthink on a Mac, but it’s not something we’d advocate nor can I put any authority on it.
