DTTG4 the first few days

Finally got a iOS26 capable phone (15Pro) and upgraded to DTTG4. It’s all a bit much after living with a bulletproof iPhone XR for ages. First off, Liquid Glass is ugly!
Gotta say, even though I haven’t dug into any of the AI/chat stuff on DT or DTTG, all the other stuff that got implemented is pretty f***ing cool!!

Just today I learned that I could:
a) reorder the list of custom metadata in DT4 (this was probably was doable in DT3 but I never bothered to try until I added some books to my scrapbook library and suddenly my list of custom metadata was full of, authors, ISBNs, and DOIs etc)
b) reorder the list of custom metadata in DTTG4. It’s a little clunky as any custom metadata with data type as SET shows as a list of every option in the set. It makes dragging items into place a little awkward. I also somehow duplicated some custom metadata fields on my phone. I am not going to rush into deleting one of them until I know what the ramifications would be.
c) It doesn’t seem as if custom metadata is addressable from the iOS Shortcuts Update Metadata action. Understandable but it would be nice to have eventually.
d) the long press on the app icon “scan” in DTT4 seems much improved for scanning paper receipts. I hadn’t tried it in a while on DTTG3 so I don’t know when that happened.
I’ve used QuickScan for a long time for it’s ease of crop/deskew, deleting pages, adding OCR, and generally being a staging area for scans so they don’t get lost in DTTG as that’s where I am doing lots of other work.Is there a way to have scans always go to one folder or is it always going to be in the folder you’re in at the time?

(The Swiss army knife metaphor holds up well here. To wit, a Swiss Army Knife is very cool but if you need two tools at once it becomes kind of hard to hold, and sometimes just a screwdriver is better than a screwdriver and awl and knife and corkscrew)

Before there was custom metadata in iOS I used a shortcut to ask me about receipt information and it would format it into a comment that I could then turn into custom metadata using a script or batch in DT3/4. That shortcut would also do math for me (subtract tips from totals, estimate sales tax). In some ways that’s easier still but I am trying out all sorts of new workflows on the subway ride home.

Well done Devonistas!

Thanks for the good feedback (and we agree Liquid Glass solves no problems and is uhhmm……… aesthetically challenging :grimacing:).

Scans always go into the current group. This may change in the future, depending on interest and requests… and feasibility.
