I’d like quick-and-easy 1-2-3 steps to upgrade from DEVONthink Pro 3 to DEVONthink Pro 4. I’ve paid for the extension and have downloaded the new app, though I haven’t installed it yet. I have two databases, and I have DEVONthink Pro 3 installed on two Macs. The two databases sync between my two Macs.
So, how do I do the upgrade? Should I install the new app on both computers, then delete the app for DEVONthink Pro 3 from both computers? I saw a mention here that I should close Safari so that after installation and a restart of Safari the extension in that app will point to new version 4; is that correct?
One of my most important uses of DEVONthink Pro 3 is to scan documents using my ScanSnap 1600. A few years ago DEVONthink customer support helped me set an earlier ScanSnap (a 1500) so that I can select the scan-to-DEVONthink option on my scanner and docs immediately go into my main DEVONthink database. Will that “trick” still work? Or will I have to change something to make it work?
Any other suggestions from a very basic perspective?
Anything special I need to do to get local sync via Bonjour with version 4 working? Bonjour shows “Incoming Connections: Available” in Sync settings for version 3, but if I shutdown version 3, restart Mac, and startup version 4, I get “Incoming Connections: None”. Some settings somewhere in the Bonjour world that need to be changed? Do I need to uninstall version 3? I was keeping both versions until I could verify that everything had been moved over properly on the Mac and iPhone since both were just upgraded from version 3 to 4.
Everything seems fine with opening my databases on the Mac with either version 3 or 4. Only issue is this local sync.
You should not have version 3 and 4 available on the same account, on the same Mac. Delete the DEVONthink 3 application and reboot the Mac. Do NOT run an uninstaller application. You should also read the Getting Started > First and Last Steps section of the built-in Help and manual regarding macOS privacy options.
In my DEVONthink4, in the Scripts → Export there is “Daily Backup Archives” script. I understand this delivered as part of DEVONthink4. This what you are looking for? See page 35 of DEVONthink Manual.
