I thought easy find searched contents of Word and pdf’s. But see in the settings that neither is listed. Only .text and .rtf. Has this always been a limit? I thought I did successful “content” searches in past that turned up results from these formats

PDF and Word documents aren’t text-based file formats. However, they have changed over the years, becoming less and less text-based, so it may have been more possible some time ago.
