ExactScan can't find scanner

I have downloaded Devonthink Pro Office, and installed it. I have tried scanning but keep getting the message, “Scanner Not Ready: The driver has not recognized a compatible device. Please make sure the scanner is connected and not used by another application.”

After trying this a number of times, I uninstalled Devonthink Pro Office, and instead installed ExactScan, downloaded from that company’s web site. With ExactScan alone, everything worked just fine. It recognized my scanner, a Xerox Documate 252.

So the question is, what do I need to do to get this to work under Devonthink?

The Xerox driver is part of the commercial ExactScan package, not of ExactScan Capture, which works with TWAIN, which the standalone package does not.

So I guess I need to buy the separate ExactScan package, which is a pricey $140 US.

Or get the public domain twain software to work, which may take a lot of time.

Or buy a new scanner, which is less than $500.

I guess I’ll think it over.
