Exclude from search on a group does not exclude the documents within?

I have an indexed folder which I have excluded from search - but the documents in it are still listed in searches.

Is this by design? I would have expected that the documents are hidden with the parent folder/group.

The items inside the group should actually be excluded (and I just tested this successfully). Which version of DEVONthink do you use?

Using 3.72. - And now it works for me too!

(Maybe DEVONthink needed a bit of time to reindex stuff and I tested it too quickly?)

Actually this doesn’t require any indexing. Please let us know if this should happen again, thanks!

Sure. Will do.

I’m experiencing the same issue in DEVONthink 4.1.1: Even though I’ve set both the database itself and—just to be safe—all folders within it to “Exclude from Chat, Classification, See Also, Search” in the inspector, none of the “Exclude From…” checkboxes are ticked for newly created files.

What I actually want to achieve is to exclude the entire database (and all future files added to or created within it) from Chat, Classification, See Also, and Search.

Why exactly do you want to exclude all database contents from e.g. classificaiton, see also and searching? These commands are performed locally, contrary to the chat.

If you want to exclude documents from Classification, See Also, and Search, why would even put them into DT in the first place?

I also use DEVONthink to back up my emails—but I don’t need search results from emails when performing cross-database searches.

Why don’t you close the email database if you don’t need to find anything in it?

‘Exclude from everything’ was probably my thought behind it  The important point is excluding from Chat. The question is really whether new files (and folders) in excluded folders shouldn’t inherit the exclusion properties, and where I can set that up.

Good point
