I’ve just purchased DT4 about a week ago and loving it. The versioning feature built-in is welcome, but could be more useful.
As I understand it, DT4 only creates a version of a file after a specific time of editing has elapsed. Please could a button be added to the “Versions” sidebar that a user can click to manually create a version of a file when a user chooses?
To be super-duper useful, giving the option for a user to name the snapshot would be even better, but I imagine requires more work.
Welcome @MBailey
Versioning will only save 2 minutes or longer after the last save. This is to avoid producing too many versions, especially if you have set a limited number of versions, something we do advocate.
Your request is noted, but it’s the first of its kind.
The poor people’s versioning in DT 3 (which I use) is simply automating what you would do manually. At the end, you have a descending list of changed text by date in the annotations window.
I used to just make copies of the text in another document. But this way it’s clearer and I don’t have to open any extra windows to compare the different versions.
Not sure I understand. The idea is not for automating the versioning, it’s about triggering it when the user chooses. All the underlying code to support versioning is already in-situ
