I don’t know how complicated this would be or whether it would even be possible, but It would be great if the sorter automatically saved an item in the group/database where it belongs (based on previous filings and the content of the item), so that I don’t have to select the group/database first.
That’s kinda
a key feature of what DEVONthink has had for years. Check out the section in the DEVONthink Manual and in Help (same content) “AI Explained” in the “Getting Started” chapter.
Do we talk about the same thing? I mean the Sorter, where I file links of articles from the internet (web clip) or pull pdfs to the right group or database, not the “see also”-feature or the filing documents-feature right in the database.
You could use a smart rule and the Classify action.
Okay, that would be one way. But that would work inside DT. What I mean is a way, that the sorter shows the right group or database in the moment it opens up (it opens because I want to drag a link onto it, and in the current version I have to select the right group, which could be bit cumbersome, if there are a lot of groups and databases. I know there are “favourites”, but sometimes I need a group that’s not a “favourite). Is clear, what I mean?
Actually, I want the “classify” feature built in right in the Sorter.
P.S. While I’m writing this, it seems a little bit too complicated to implement, isn’t it?!
It’s not impossible but might require a lot of time, especially in case of huge databases or huge documents. Noted but no promises.
Oh, okay. Fine. Perhaps, one day …
Meantime do as suggested. It is how I have my DEVONthink set to operate. I forgot out that as I set it up a long time ago. Hence it did not occur to me to mention
Thanks, but does it always sort it in the right group? With a version that works within the sorter I would see immediately which group is selected.
Always? No. Mostly? Yes. I keep on top of my Smart Group List “Today” and I look at each of the new incoming and the assigned groups, and if I want to adjust by moving and/or replicating, I do so. Not onerous. It’s simply looking elsewhere for the same thing you seek for Sorter, I think.
