File stuck in the Inbox

I’m using DEVONthink Version 4.0 beta 2 on a MacBook Pro with an M2 Pro chip. I placed the Inbox in Docker for quickly transferring files into DEVONthink. Since updating to Beta 2, files often get stuck in the Inbox (they are not transferred to DEVONthink’s Global Inbox). After restarting, the files are transferred to the Global Inbox as expected.

Did you change the inbox alias when you switched to DT4? If it’s still pointing to the DEVONthink 3 inbox, that would explain things.

Thanks!
I installed DT4 after uninstalling DT3, and then set up the Inbox.

My issue is the same as the one mentioned in the post you referenced: when using Hazel, there’s a delay, and a restart is needed for it to take effect.
However, when dragging files directly into the Docker Inbox, the import speed is normal.

The issue still exists.

Where does the Hazel rule send files? Deinstalling DT3 wouldn’t update an existing Hazel rule.

I’ve updated the Hazel rules to work with DT 4’s inbox location.

Actually, the files were all moved to the Inbox(Finder) and got stuck there—they weren’t transferred to the Global Inbox in the DEVONthink database.

Also, saving markdown and HTML files from the Brave browser using the DEVONthink Sorter (menu bar) is really slow. Sometimes, the file suddenly appears in the Inbox after as long as ten minutes.

I have had a similar incident. For some reason, some files and folders “got stuck” in the Inbox (I have it as Favorite in the Finder). I moved the items to their place inside DT4 but then they kept reappearing in the Inbox. I tried repairing and rebuilding but nothing helped. Then I read here and found the “culprits” stubbornly sitting in the Inbox (Finder) waiting to be imported. So I deleted the items in the Finder Inbox and the problem is solved but do you know (@cgrunenberg or @BLUEFROG) if this an issue with DT4?

Best regards,
Björn

What kind of files were in the box? Did you check their permissions/ownership? Maybe that was the reason why DEVONthink couldn’t remove them after importing.

Mostly related to LaTeX-files (tex, dvi, ps, pdf). Some files from Pages. The files are old (it is the “collector” in me that makes me want to keep them.) I think the permissions should be the same as with my other files.

HTML, MD, and PDF have similar issues—it seems that bigger files are more likely to get stuck.

And did you check the permissions/ownership?

I will check the permissions if I get this problem again. Just to check if I understand correctly. Dragging to the Inbox as a Finder Favorite is not the same thing as dragging to the Inbox shown in the Sorter?

It’s not the same. In the first case it’s just a folder which is monitored by DEVONthink (and is intended especially for saving documents to DEVONthink but not e.g. for downloading or scanning), in the second case it’s the global inbox database.

Great! Thank you! The end result of dragging to the Sorter and dragging to the dock icon is the same I assume. I think I will avoid using the Finder Favorite Inbox for now.
