Getting new scanner - advice happily accepted

Just switched to Mac, and found my All-in-One HP OfficeJet 7410 isn’t recognized by OS X as a scanner. HP’s scanning software works, but barely. And it doesn’t perform OCR, so Spotlight can’t index those .pdfs. All of which is to say that I’m looking to get a more Mac-friendly scanner, hopefully an All-in-One.

Any recommendations?

I have an Epson CX 6600 3-in-1 which works well for me with both an old G-4 and an Intel iMac. Both running OS 10.4.8. I don’t know how it compares to other manufacturer’s models as far as scanning goes since one of the main selling points for me is that I like the results that I get with Epson inks. (The CX 6600 has been superceded by a newer model.)
