Global inbox empty after replacing seat

I’ve just (finally) bought a new MacBook Air. I’ve got a licence with two seats, I’ve substituted my new MacBook for my old one. But now my global inbox is empty and it should have 600 files in it. How do I sync it? “Synchronise database” is greyed out.

DT 3 on Sequoia 15.3

Please provide details about your sync method, preferably screenshots. And how did you transfer your databases from your old to the new machine?

I was just looking to sync using the “synchronise database” option in DT. My databases are kept on an external hard drive so I just opened them from that. It’s the global inbox I have issues with.

That makes no sense. You can’t synchronize without a sync method being defined. If you have only one machine, you probably never had sync set up anyway.

And the global inbox is probably still on your old Mac. Or in your last backup of that one. Afaik, it is not stores in the same place as your other databases.

I suggest you search for global inbox in the forum as there have been several threads in the recent past detailing where it is and how to find it. And them copy it over from your old to the new machine.

This was provided elsewhere and may give a hint:

The Global Inbox does not exist inside the application any more than your databases do. (This is all well documented in the Getting Started section of the Help and has been this way for a very long time) . It’s in the /Library/Application Support/DEVONthink 3 directory or DEVONthink directory for version 4.

Hey, Rose!
What sync method were you using on the old Mac?
You’d need to set up the same sync location in DEVONthink’s Settings > Sync on the new Mac, then tap it, and enable the Global Inbox to sync.

If you don’t have a sync location set up, that command would never become enabled.

hi, I belatedly realised I hadn’t set up global inbox to sync on my old iMac. I have done that and the sync store is in Dropbox. However now when I open DT on my brand new MacBook Air, all the sync stores are greyed out. What am I still doing wrong?

I’d try clicking on the correct sync store to enable it.

It’s all explained in the manual :slightly_smiling_face: See In & Out > Sync. It opens with this:

Before we discuss particular details of sync methods, take a moment to check out the Settings > Sync section. This gives you an overview of the preference pane where syncs are set up.

Follow the link, and you get…

I get this when I do that:

I’m sorry, but I’m out of this thread now. There’s a user manual that describes everything in detail, and it is accessible directly in DT. It is also available as a PDF on the DEVONtechnology site. There are tons of forum threads dealing exclusively with sync. And there are blog entries about it. I don’t see any point in repeating all that.

Enter the sync store name and possibly the encryption and see what you get. No one can tell you what these values are – just use those that worked with your previous install. And please read and follow the manual.
