Global Search

Hi,

is there a way to search all open databases in one go?
My DBs are something like 400mb combined, that should be manageable.

‘Tools>Search…’ (Command-Shift-F) and select ‘Search in: Databases’.

Already had that activated, I’m afraid. The search just searches the database I’m actually in.

It will search all open databases, assuming that nothing else is blocking the search and also assuming that the search term occurs in multiple databases. You might want to check the ‘Advanced’ option to ensure that nothing is limiting the search.

It works when I use the Advanced search window, but not if I use the “search” window inside DEVONthink.

Why would the term (have to) exist in multiple databases?

The advanced search window (in the Tools menu) is for searching across all open databases, or a specific database if desired. The search options in the Edit menu and from the search field in the toolbar searches in the current database/selection/document, depending on the context and the options set in the toolbar menu.

Poor wording on my part-the search term does not have to exist in multiple databases for the search to span multiple databases, but if the term only exists in one database, then the results from that one database is what will be returned.

Ok, thanks a lot for your help.
