Hy, How can I recreate my custom metadata? I think it was deleted by the DT4tG beta on my iPad. I don’t have any other idea. They just disappeared.
The default templates can be added again via the contextual/action menu. Alternatively quit DEVONthink and restore a backup of ~/Library/Application Support/DEVONthink/CustomMetaData.plist
Ok. I’ve got it. Thanks. ![]()
Do you have any steps for reproducing how this happened? When did the custom metadata vanish? And just the definitions or also the metadata from the documents?
Are you syncing the Global Inbox between DEVONthink and DEVONthink To Go?
No. I installed DtG 4.0 on iPad and iPhone and synchronized the databases. The next day I launched DT4.0 on macOS and noticed that there were no metadata.
Yes, I synchronized the Global Inbox and selected databases.
DTtG still removes my metadata in DT4
So every time you add a metadata field in DT4, sync, and sync back, they’re gone?
No. I open the file CustomMetaData.plist and paste the archived settings. In DTtG4 the meta dates are empty. They do not synchronize with DT4 on macOS. I reverted to DTtG 3.8 and the problem does not occur.
Thanks for the follow-up.
I am looking at this now.
Still a problem; caused by simply installing the DTTG4 beta
Thanks for the fix; a simple .plist reload restored my data
This also happened to me when I installed the DTTG4 beta. Thanks for the .plist tip. I think I’ll have to stop testing until this is reported resolved as I relay heavily on custom md.
Remember this is a beta test, not an early access program. You shouldn’t be using a beta in production or with mission-critical data.
Also, as I noted we are investigating custom metadata behavior between the desktop and mobile apps.
Understood. Still, testing it this way only reason we were able to uncover this bug.
It did disrupt some of my work, but I’m looking forward to the final release regardless. What I especially miss is AI support in DTtGo on IPad - that would be e great addition. ![]()
Settings > AI, the Search Assistant, The Chat assistant (global and in-document), Summarize functions…
I know it.
For now, however, I am using version 3.8 and waiting for 4.0.
Ahh… gotcha ![]()
