I have a DT4 database on my Mac with appr. 120.000 emails. This database is synchronized via iCloud with DTTG. All apps and operating systems are up to date. Apparently, in DTTG I can not search within these emails as long as they are not been indexed. But as far as I see, the indexation stops each time as soon as the iPhone activates the lock screen.
How to get indexed all these emails in DTTG?
iOS apps cannot run in the background or when the device is locked. That’s the world of iOS. Just leave your device unlocked until all indexing is done.

I’m curious why you would need 120,000 emails on your iPhone.

This is simply the database with all emails I ever have sent or received since I began to own a computer in the early ninetees. It’s comparable with the shoe boxes of our grandparents with all the letters of their live. Due to the fact that in this database are not only stored the ancient emaisl but also the current ones I need access to this database on my iPhone.
Do you have a better idea how to handle this?
I’m wondering if you often (ever?) find need to search on iPhone way back to old emails? Need immediate access while “on the go” and away from you DEVONthink running on your computer?
What I do. May not suit you.
I keep “too many” old emails in a DEVONthink database mainly as it easier than spending time curating the mess. But I notice I don’t really ever go back searching that database. That database is not synced to other devices and remains on my MacBook. Rarely, do I even open it in DEVONthink.
Routinely and with “muscle memory” when I have an incoming and/or sent email that I think could be useful in the near future I simply move it into the Mail app’s Archive folder where it sits for reference if needed. Mail searching works pretty good. Eventually (say once a year or so) I move the older Archive mails into that huge-but-maybe-unneeded big mail DEVONthink database.
