HTML and Web Archive - connecting to the internet

Hi there smart people,

I’ve clipped several items from various websites, both as HTML and Web Archives. When I click on either of these clipping types, I notice that they’re connecting to the internet (thanks Little Snitch). It’s my understanding that a Web Archive is a downloaded, self contained archive of the web page itself, so I’m surprised that it’s doing this. As far as an HTML clipping, I could see it needing to reach out, if there’s a reference to something in the page.

Please help me understand.

Thanks!

Jeff

It’s not. Especially with sites using dynamically loading content, webarchives are not very self-contained in many cases.

Thanks Jim.

So it appears that it’s best to use PDF or RTFD, when clipping web pages.

I wouldn’t say it as a blanket statement as some sites function just fine. Eventually you get a sense of what sites work well and what ones don’t (though there’s always room for surprises occasionally - good and bad  ).
