I want to manage DTTG icloud storage

here are some data bases that I dont need and they are occupying space on my iCloud storage, I am not sure about how to go about deleting it.

I still haven’t figured out how syncing occurs on it. I have my databases on my Mac, but then devonthink go has it on iCloud so I was wondering if anyone can explain it to how it works and how I can rationalise my data storage use.

Also i have few questions :

  1. My desktop databases are on mac storage.
  2. When i sync them to icloud via DTTG - do they get backed up on icloud?
  3. So if i delete database on the mac, would i be able to recover them from icloud ?

tell me if i am wrong, with dtt3 and dttg database on mac is replicated on icloud and is independent on database on Dtt3 ???

Note : i am super noob, trying to learn how it all works first so that i can manage my thesis/research stuff on it.

At the bottom of the DTTG options panel, we see “Backup to iCloud”
I have this disabled

When i sync them to icloud via DTTG … would i be able to recover them from icloud?

What sync methods are you using?
I use iCloud(Cloudkit); there is a sync-store stored on iCloud
I can recover databases from this syncstore

There are lengthy explanations in the documentation, there have been lots of threads on syncing here, there are blog posts by DEVONtechnologies on the topic. I doubt that anything new can be added to all that.

To re-iterate: backup and sync are two very different concepts. Nothing you sync gets backed up, really.

Yes - but don’t count on that giving you what you really want. Use a proper backup strategy, and everything on that topic had also been said here.

Please use the forum’s search function to get more in-depth information.

To clarify (and this is documented): Your databases are not copied to a sync location, including iCloud on Apple’s servers. So if you’re imagining you can go into iCloud Drive and access them, you can’t.
And each device – both Mac and mobile – has its own copy of the database but can sync to a commonly accessible location. See this blog post…

  1. You need to disable syncing those databases in DEVONthink and DEVONthink To Go, as needed.
  2. Then select the sync location, e.g., in DEVONthink’s Settings > Sync.
  3. Secondary-click the unwanted database in the Databases list on the right and choose Clean Database. Repeat with any other undesired databases.
  4. Check Window > Log to ensure the clean was reported successfully.
