iCloud syncing > direct connection/Bonjour

I have been using iCloud for syncing between DEVONthink on my Mac and DEVONthink To Go. However, I no longer need it and would like to exclusively use a direct connection/Bonjour. Are there any precautions I should take to prevent data loss when I stop iCloud sync and switch to a direct connection? Or is it simply a matter of turning one on and the other off?
Thanks, Per.

I’ve turned iCloud sync on and off for various reasons over the years and never had any problems. Assuming your sync is up to date, I would think you’ll be fine.

I’d recommend you disable the iCloud sync on other devices then clean the sync location first. Then switch to a Bonjour sync. Step-by-step is in the in & Out > Sync: Bonjour section of the built-in Help and manual.

Thank you for your response, Jim! I looked at the Manuel and saw the step-by-step exclamation. However, I couldn’t find any information about switching from one method to another, so I just wanted to ensure I wouldn’t make any mistakes. Can you explain why you recommend stopping and clearing before starting with a new method?

You’re welcome.

  • Stopping the other devices do they’re not pushing sync data to Apple’s servers.
  • Cleaning reclaims the space in your Apple account.
