Especially Catalina’s iCloud support is quite unreliable for some users, let’s hope Big Sur will be more stable (at least the betas are so far). Does only the bird process use a lot of CPU time or DEVONthink too?
The problem persists here, too. It means that the fans are always blowing at full blast whenever DevonThink is running, which is annoying. This definitely wasn’t happening when I previously worked on this computer, though I can’t recall whether that was before DT3. It’s had a few nights to to run all night, and still “iCloud Upload, N of M items” – where both N and M seem pretty random, bouncing up and down.
Pls make some adjustments for those of us enduring this, it’s has been too long.
As pnorthup has mentioned EVERY time I start DevonThink fans are high occasionally it slows down then goes up again intervals. When I stop all the apps running and leave DevonThink alone then fans slows down.
Also I might not be using Big Sur for at least tow years from now.
The same here, for me it started when DevonThink introduced iCloud Upload display sometimes after DevonThink 3
I got my other computer (2018 MBA, Catalina) back, installed DT3 on it, and it’s having the same issues as my 2011 MBA (High Sierra) was. I’m Rebuilding all the databases in the hopes that that might help.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I reformatted my Mac just few days ago, not for this reason but for other reason, I thought it would help to have a clean Mac and to have a fresh DevonThink installed but I still see the numbers keep going up and up "iCloud Upload. 4 of 6…)
But then again maybe if I started with clean Databases might have solved this issue. I just transferred all my Databases. total GB of my databases are about 12 GB
It takes a while. 12 GB not small.
Correct! Except this has been happening before reformatting mac and reinstalling DT.
Just suggests that reformatting and reinstalling DEVONthink probably has nothing to do with Aople’s iCloud.
Maybe, … but there is some linkage. The last few days I got the continuous iCloud upload message other have referred to. At the same time memory usage climbed and climbed. My iMac was also not happy. I closed down iCloud Sync and setup Dropbox sync and all is sweet, …
Are you leaving DEVONthink’s Sync preferences open all the time?
Not sure I understand question. I set up sync preferences some time ago for iCloud and have not touched anything. Its worked fine until recently, … perhaps the problem came when I upgraded to latest version (not sure). Anyway as you say, real problem is that iCloud is a curse to work out what’s going on, … Its no big deal for me except I was trying to transition away from Dropbox, …
Are you leaving DEVONthink’s preferences window open?
If so, is it showing the Sync preferences?
No I don’t leave the window open - why would I? Sorry missing point of question.
Many people do and we’re trying to track a potential memory leak.
Ok
DT3 is now using about 380 MB of memory which is around the norm for me - when I had the iCloud upload gremlin it got to 3GB!
Guys what is the 30GB of data in iCloud from DT?
My 5 dtabses combined are about 12 GB
Maybe that’s the reason the uploads # keep going up and never reaches the top ha
I find that iCloud still gets “stuck” at times, and that Howard Oakely’s free utility Cirrus can help to unjam it.
The existence of this tool suggests Apple’s iCloud far from perfect …
