I’ve noticed sometimes tags seem to be implicit: e.g. when I have category books
with nested tags fiction
and non-fiction
- sometimes items show up ‘just’ under fiction
and non-fiction
, but sometimes also directly under book
(and sometimes not). It seems to be dependent on the way I initially tagged the items. Is there a way to recognize implicit vs explicit tags? Or am I mistaken and is something else happening?
I seem to remember that if you set up a tagging hierarchy before tagging items, if you use a child tag then the parent tag will automatically be inherited, too.
- parent
-
- child 1
-
- child 2
So ‘child 2’ will always also acquire ‘parent’ if you’ve set this up before tagging items. But if you organise and nest your tags after you’ve already tagged items, these won’t automatically be updated (I think! @BLUEFROG will set me straight if that’s not correct).
See DEVONtechnologies | Understanding Tagging and from within DT under ‘Tips and Tricks’, see ‘How to Use Nested Tags’ (9 Aug 2022) – sorry not sure how to link to this latter item.
Good luck.
Screen captures would be helpful.
Tags are dynamically applied to or removed from items if you nest and unnest tags.
How are your items usually tagged?
