Import files and folders function grayed-out

I am unable to import files to the global inbox as the Import files and folder function is grayed-out. Also using dragging files from Finder and dropping into global inbox does not work either.

Am using DEVONthink 3 version 3.9 with macOS Monterey version 12.6.3. It was working fine until this week. Appreciate your help and suggestions.

A screen capture would be helpful.

What’s selected in the sidebar of the main window? Maybe the database is read-only.

I want to import files from Finder as the drag and drop function does not work either.

A screenshot of the complete window would be useful.

The import function is grayed-out for files and folder. I cannot drag and drop the files from the Finder also.

Please post a screenshot of the complete window without the menu as it’s hiding important parts of the sidebar and the main view. By the way, screenshots can be also created via Cmd-Shift-3 oder Cmd-Shift-4.

The inbox is indeed marked as read-only, see small icons in the sidebar. This might be a permission issue. Please quit DEVONthink 3 and then check the permissions of ~/Library/Application Support/DEVONthink 3/Inbox.dtBase2 in the Finder.

How do i check the permissions? When i click on Inbox.dtBase2, it opens the DT3 with a notice that there is one major error with option to ignore, rebuild or use last backup

In Finder: Right click, Information, Permissions at the bottom. As always.

Re you question, you do that by picking “Info” in Finder and looking at the bottom of that dialog box to show the macOS permissions.

But looks like you found your problem. Perhaps do as the menu suggests, and rebuild?

But before doing that, please read the “Troubleshooting” chapter in the “DEVONthink Manual” so that you can learn what it is that you will be doing.

That’s of course an important information, in that case it’s not a permission issue. Please create a backup of the database in the Finder, then launch DEVONthink and rebuild the inbox (see File > Rebuild Database…). Does this fix the issue?

I try all the options : ignore, rebuild and use last backup. Still the same issue remains. For some reason, With regards to permission, i have read/write privileges as shown.

And was anything logged to Windows > Log? Rebuilding should definitely fix all issues unless it’s a permission issue, the other options aren’t useful.

These are the permissions of the DEVONthink application, not the one of the database. In addition, it’s possible that there are multiple copies of DEVONthink 3 on your computer as the filename DEVONthink 3 2.app is not the expected one.

i downloaded another copy of DT3 to test out earlier but the issue persists.

And did rebuilding the database report any issues, see Window > Log?

Nothing in in the log.

Rebuilding should actually at least log progress and stats to the log, did you use File > Rebuild Database… as suggested?
