Recently I’ve encountered situations where I will try to add PDF files into DTP Office only to find that the none of the text has been indexed. The log states that these files have “no text” in them, and yet they are wholly searchable using Spotlight. Has any one else had this problem?
Do you use pdftotext or PDFKit (see Preferences > PDF & PS) to index PDF documents? Or are the PDFs protected?
I was using pdftotext and when I switched to the pdfKit things worked perfectly. Is there ever reason to use one over the other, or is the pdfKit considered the better choice?
And also, from your other question, I’m assuming that if the pdfs were indeed protected that DTP wouldn’t be able to index?

PDFKit is usually recommended if you’re using Mac OS X 10.4.x (and both pdftotext and TextLightning will be only supported as long as Mac OS X 10.3.9 will be supported).
