Moving into DT4. I just transferred into my inbox 8 multi-track courses (mp3s), 7 individual mp3s, and 2 documents for a total of 17 “lines” (entries?) into that inbox. But the number beside it in the navigation bar was 7, then 6 and now it’s 5.
I do notice that 5 of the 17 line items in my Inbox have circles on the LHS of their name/name column.
So two things: first, what do the circles mean? There seem to be a range of icons that show up there; where do I find the list telling me what they all mean? And second, I thought the numbers in the navigation bar indicated the number of “files” (line items) in a group… like “All Images” says 80 which I think means there are 80 images, 80 “line items,” in that location. But I’m obviously mistaken with the Inbox, so am I mistaken about them all? What’s that number for if not the number of items in a given location?
TIA
Not to curb your enthusiasm, but did you consider reading the manual before posting here?
And if you post here, providing as much useful information as possible makes it a lot easier for people to help you. That includes screenshot.
We don’t see what you see, so help us by making us see what you see.
And that what you see in this case is very obviously the number of unread items. Like in a mail program. Or an RSS reader.
I have read most of the manual, both here and Take Control. As I’m not sure of what to call this, I don’t know where to look again. In DT2 the numbers in the navigation bar indicated the number of files; here they do not. Tell me where to look and I’ll go there. Thanks.
The numbers in DEVONthink 4 are not drastically dissimilar to those in version 2.
You are looking at the number of unread items in the group.
- The number on the group is in a charcoal lozenge in the Navigate sidebar or in bold in the item list.
- Unread items have their name in bold and show a dot to their left if View > List View Columns > Flag is enabled (and yes, yours is).
Also, this is covered in the Windows > Main Window > Item List: Visual Cues section of the built-in Help and manual. It continues on down to the next subsection…
Also, see the Appendix > Iconology.
